What makes Wolfworthy such a great alternative to raw feeding?
We’re often asked: “What makes Wolfworthy a good alternative to raw?”
For dog owners who like the idea of feeding plenty of quality animal ingredients but want something easier to store and serve, Wolfworthy offers a convenient dry alternative.
Our recipes contain high levels of freshly prepared meat or fish alongside other carefully selected ingredients, without the preparation, defrosting and storage associated with raw feeding.
High-Quality Ingredients
Wolfworthy recipes are made with 80% animal ingredients, including high levels of freshly prepared meat and fish.
Our freshly prepared meat and fish are human-grade quality and delivered chilled in refrigerated transport. In our on-site kitchen, the freshly prepared proteins are gently cooked at around 82°C (180°F).
Our Original recipe includes freshly prepared chicken, salmon, trout and organ meats including beef liver, hearts and kidneys. Our Oily Fish recipe contains freshly prepared salmon, trout and haddock alongside other carefully selected ingredients.

High in Protein
Wolfworthy recipes contain approximately 36–37% crude protein, depending on the recipe.
Protein is an essential part of a dog’s diet and provides amino acids required for normal body functions, including the maintenance of muscle and other tissues.
It’s worth remembering that our 80% animal ingredients and 36–37% crude protein figures measure different things and shouldn’t be used interchangeably.
Organ Meats in Our Original Recipe
Our Original recipe includes freshly prepared beef liver, hearts and kidneys.
Organ meats naturally provide a range of nutrients and are one of the ways we incorporate a variety of animal ingredients into the recipe.
Gently Cooked Freshly Prepared Meat and Fish
Our freshly prepared meat and fish are gently cooked at around 82°C (180°F) as part of our production process.
This allows us to use high levels of freshly prepared animal ingredients while producing a convenient dry food that doesn’t require the same refrigeration, defrosting and handling as raw meat.
Wolfworthy is an extruded dry food, rather than raw, cold-pressed or air-dried food.
Our food is made in the UK and our recipes are among the highest-rated UK dry dog foods on independent comparison website All About Dog Food.
Frequently Asked Questions
What about calcium?
Wolfworthy recipes are formulated to provide calcium as part of their complete nutritional profile.
For example:
- Original recipe: approximately 1.3% calcium
- Oily Fish recipe: approximately 1.4% calcium
- Countryside recipe: approximately 1.2% calcium
You can see the complete composition and analytical constituents for each recipe on our ingredients page.
Why is Wolfworthy dark brown?
The colour comes naturally from the ingredients used in our recipes. We don’t need to make our food look a particular colour for dogs.
Why might I feed a smaller amount than raw food?
Moisture content makes a significant difference when comparing dry and raw foods.
Wolfworthy contains approximately 8% moisture, whereas raw foods typically contain considerably more water. This means you cannot compare portions simply by looking at the weight or volume in the bowl.
Always follow the appropriate feeding guidance for the food you’re using rather than trying to match the portion size of a different type of food.
A Convenient Alternative to Raw
Wolfworthy isn’t raw food and we don’t claim that it is nutritionally identical to feeding raw.
Instead, it offers another option for owners who want a complete dry food with high levels of quality animal ingredients, without the refrigeration, defrosting and preparation associated with raw feeding.
Our three recipes – Original, Oily Fish and Countryside – are grain-free, suitable for all life stages and made with high levels of freshly prepared meat or fish.
